Kenny Jackett: We just can't strike the right deal

Wolves' search for Benik Afobe's replacement drags on with Kenny Jackett admitting: "We can't find the right player for the right price."

Reported target Conor Washington yesterday moved from Peterborough to QPR for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £2.5m.

And while new Polish signing Michal Zyro has scored three in his first two league matches, Jackett is well aware that forward additions are needed sooner rather than later.

Nahki Wells appeared to rule himself out of a move to Molineux last week by saying he would stay at Huddersfield for the rest of the season.

And Bolton starlet Zach Clough remains with the Trotters for the time being with the club's desperate financial situation changing daily.

Jason Cummings of Hibs, Barnet's John Akinde and Walsall's Tom Bradshaw are other names to have been linked, while Crystal Palace's Frazier Campbell and Watford striker Obbi Oulare may be available on loan.

Jackett said: "There's nothing imminent, we are looking and working hard towards bringing players in.

"We can't find the right player for the right price, it's as simple as that.

"Kevin Thelwell and Jez Moxey will be working hard to rectify that and strengthen our side."

A deal to bring Newcastle centre-half Mike Williamson back to the club after a successful loan spell has stalled for the time being.

Jackett added: "Is there interest in him? Yes, I was very impressed with what he brought to us and how good he was when he was on loan.But no, a deal isn't close."

Wolves will hope to bring someone in before this Saturday's televised trip to QPR. Bjorn Sigurdarson, who suffered a slight back problem at West Ham earlier this month, may be available.

"It depends how his week goes, we'll know by Thursday, maybe Friday," Jackett said.
