In our poll of possible striker to replace Benik Afobe, ex-Middlesbrough loanee Bamford received 32 per cent of almost 5,000 votes.

Zach Clough and Conor Washington (both 14 per cent) of Bolton and Peterborough respectively, were next on the list.

They were followed by Huddersfield's Nahki Wells (10 per cent) and Walsall's Tom Bradshaw (nine per cent).

Jason Cummings (Hibernian) and Kyle Lafferty (Norwich) polled three per cent, with 15 per cent saying none of those seven.

A separate poll on whether Benik Afobe should have been sold saw almost half of 2,300 voters think he shouldn't have been sold, with 23 per cent saying yes and 30 per cent undecided.

As far as snaring Afobe's replacement, boss Kenny Jackett admitted it wasn't ideal trying to buy in January.

But he added that they would be looking for players to fit the 'young and hungry' model they have favoured in recent years.

He said: "It is more difficult (in January). The summer's an easier market, but it is what it is.

"Nobody gets every signing right, you're dealing with human beings for a start, but there are too many different factors in it.

"Generally we've targeted younger, hungrier platers that can develop with the club. I still do believe that's the right policy.

"Do Wolves need to win tonight? Yes. That's imperative and top of the list.

"Even so, building and developing is a very important thing because when it all goes wrong, and it did here for a couple of relegations.

"When you have a group of older players and perhaps no younger players to come in and replace them, a club can struggle very quickly.

"We've got, even if you go down to our youth team, some good young strikers here. We have to make sure we balance that up.

"Do we want people that are doing it right now? Yes we do. But there has to be an overall feeling of 'young and hungry.'

"I readily accept for the supporters, they don't want someone coming in now in January that's going to be a good player in 18 months.

"They want someone that's going to directly affect the second half of the season and so do I."
