Kenny Jackett: Wolves need new players

Under-fire Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has sent out an SOS to the club's board to sign some players in January by claiming "these players need help."

Jackett – whom 61 per cent of 4,000 voters in an Express & Star poll think should be sacked – remains defiant that he can turn Wolves' season around.

But he has called on the Wolves hierarchy to bring in experienced heads to help his young and under-performing side.

It's understood that Jackett's job is safe – for now – with Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey reluctant to pull the trigger on a man who has overseen a rejuvenation of the club before their recent struggles.

And the head coach is desperate for reinforcements in the January transfer window to instigate an improvement in his team's flagging fortunes.

When asked what had to be done to transform Wolves' form, Jackett explained what the thinks is required.

He said: "A combination of the players recognising what they need to do to compete in the Championship and then understanding the basics of it and the decision-making process during the course of the game.

"Then, at the right time, obviously some help from the outside as well is going to be needed, we can see that. Yes, a lot of the players have something and we have a number of good players.

"I do think though they need some help and they need some help during the course of the game, because the decision making, the managing of the game when we're maybe in front, it just isn't there at the moment."

Wolves were convincingly outplayed in their 4-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday. It came on the back of another defensive horror show against Leeds three days earlier.

The two losses leave Wolves 17th in the Championship table, closer to the relegation zone than the top six.

Jackett admitted Wolves are now looking over their shoulders at the bottom three, although they still have a seven-point cushion.

Wolves host Reading on Boxing Day and then travel to Charlton on Monday in two games that may dictate Jackett's future.

He added: "We certainly need some help from the outside, definitely, in terms of January. There is no doubt that is the case and I've stated that for a couple of months.

"The performances or the results haven't (previously) been as bad as the 3-2 (against Leeds) and the 4-1 (against Sheffield Wednesday).

"For the five games previous to those two they've been close, or slightly us (being the better side), but the last two we haven't deserved anything out of it, because of our defending as a side.

"How do we rectify that? We need to give these players some help in January, definitely."

Just a few hundred tickets remain for the FA Cup clash against West Ham at Upton Park next month. More than 2,500 of Wolves' 3,000 allocation have been sold.
