Right-back Josh Hesson and midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White were involved as a much-changed team were beaten 2-1 by the Magpies in the Under-18 Premier League.

Christian Herc put Wolves in front on 10 minutes from a well-worked corner, but Louis Johnson's penalty and Shane Donagey's winner ensured Wolves left the North East empty-handed.

"It was a bit of a different weekend for us as we took up a slightly younger team to Newcastle," said Gill.

"With a few missing we played a couple of 15-year-olds in Josh Hesson at right-back and Morgan Gibbs-White in midfield and they both got 90 minutes.

"It was really good for their development, a good challenge, and an opportunity for us to see them in action in under-18s football.

"That was a real positive that came out of the game as myself, Sean (Parrish) and Darren Ryan are constantly looking to see who are the next players coming through.

"That meant the team wasn't as settled as it had been in recent weeks when we had kept the same eleven together and gone on a good run.

"But I am not overly disappointed because even though that run came to an end, it was a good performance and the lads showed a good attitude."

Wolves' next game is against North Group leaders Everton, before hosting MK Dons in the FA Youth Cup.
