Wolves will continue with a 'young and hungry' policy in the transfer market, boss Kenny Jackett has confirmed.

But the head coach still can't give assurances to supporters on whether money is available to spend in January.

Since Jackett took charge at Molineux, an emphasis has been placed on signing younger players on longer-term contracts.

However, the team's struggles this season have been blamed by some on a lack of experience in the squad.

The recent loan signings of Grant Holt and Mike Williamson, aged 34 and 31 respectively, have temporarily redressed part of that imbalance.

Jackett, though, insists that any permanent signings will still be of a young age.

Are the club still looking for permanent signings that are younger? "Yes," Jackett replied.

"On short term contracts yes some experienced players, but it terms of going forward making sure we get the right balance I'm sure.

"Adding young and hungry players on longer term contracts who can help take us forward. Capitalising on our academy is a big part, and will continue to be so."

With Steve Morgan having resigned as chairman, it is not known if Jackett and recruitment chiefs Kevin Thelwell and John Marshall will have the funds required to bring in their chosen targets in January.

Can any assurances be given? "Well the overall budget or way forward will still be set by the chairman and board of directors, that won't change," Jackett said.

"Internally Kevin Thelwell and John Marshall are working away at assessing our staff, our strengths, our weaknesses, looking at the contractual situations of our squad and seeing what adjustments they need to make in January.

"Where we are financially going forward and what we can do, we shall see. We see the window as an opportunity to adjust and improve.

"In terms of putting that to the board of directors that's their question."

In the meantime Jackett if focused on pushing Wolves up the table, starting with today's trip to Ipswich Town.

He added: "Between now and January there is a great chance if we put a run together.

"It's also about taking a slightly longer view, assessing the squad, and take the opportunity that is there with any transfer window.

"But getting the maximum amount of points, trying to get ourselves up the table and be as successful as we can is number one priority for me."
