Ikeme was one of a clutch of Wolves players to appear for their countries in the past week.

Ikeme is in line to face Ipswich Town on Saturday if Emiliano Martinez doesn't recover from a thigh injury.

The 29-year-old played in two crucial World Cup qualifying matches for the Super Eagles against minnows Swaziland, with the winner of the knockout double-header progressing to the final group stage.

A 0-0 draw in Swaziland, who are ranked a lowly 130th in the world (Nigeria are 59th) set up a tense second leg in Port Harcourt.

Sunday Oliseh's side took until the 51st minute to break the deadlock through Moses Simon, and then Celtic's Efe Ambrose finally put the tie to bed three minutes from time.

Nigeria now progress to the final stage which will see 20 teams divided into five groups. The five group winners will qualify for Russia 2018.

While away with his new international team Ikeme, who now has six caps for the Super Eagles, spoke of the difference between playing for his country and his club.

"It's definitely different," he said. "There's a lot more singing and dancing, especially on the way to the game.

"Everyone's singing on the bus. It's a bit different than going to a local game, where most lads are quiet on the coach going to a game, listening to their own music.

"Everyone with Nigeria gets involved singing and dancing on the way to the game."

"I've always known how big football is in Nigeria, but I don't think until I actually played I realised the passion and just quite how much it means."

"It's a bit more of a carnival atmosphere and it's different to playing back in England, where it's quite edgy with rivalries between the supporters and stuff like that.

"It's a different experience, but it's enjoyable."

Elsewhere Dominic Iorfa played twice for England Under-21s in their Euro 2017 qualifiers.

With Liverpool's Joe Gomez out injured, Iorfa was handed his first competitive starts for Gareth Southgate's side, and played 90 minutes in both as England drew 0-0 away at Bosnia-Herzegovina and then beat Switzerland 3-1 at Brighton's Amex Stadium on Monday night.

They top Group 9 after four matches. Southgate said: "We play Switzerland again in March and they're a good side, a well organised side and we had to show tremendous qualities to beat them.

"There's a long way to go in this group, but it's good to be in control of it."

On-loan Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo was a half time substitute for England Under-19s as they beat Japan 5-1 at Manchester City's Academy Stadium.

Midfielder Lee Evans, currently on loan at Bradford City, played 90 minutes in both of Wales' Under-21 fixtures against Romania (1-1) and Armenia (2-1). Wales also top their Euro 2017 qualifying group.

And youngster Connor Ronan capped an impressive performance with a goal for Republic of Ireland Under-19s as they beat Latvia 3-0.

David Edwards was in the Wales squad for their friendly against the Netherlands in Cardiff, but remained an unused substitute as the visitors won 3-2.
