Williamson's arrival from Newcastle United has helped bring about a dramatic improvement in Wolves' defensive fortunes.

They have conceded just one goal in three matches, with the 31-year-old looking very comfortable at Championship level.

His one-month deal takes in two more games - the trip to Ipswich on November 21 and the visit of MK Dons to Molineux a week later.

Whether he is allowed to stay depends on Newcastle, who themselves have tightened up at the back of late, going from conceding 11 in three games to consecutive clean sheets.

But Wolves would love to extend the deal and Jackett said discussions would be had with Newcastle in the near future.

"I've been very pleased with him and we'll be keen to extend it," the Wolves boss said.

"He's made a good start. he's really pulled the back four together and we've needed that.

"We haven't spoken to Newcastle yet but we'll certainly be talking to them and the player along those lines

"We'll see in terms of what Newcastle want.

"We'd like some understanding. They'll obviously be very pleased he's out and playing.

"It's hard to know or speak on their behalf. That (an extra month) wasn't discussed at the start."

Wolves have played the same back four in their past three games, with Dominic Iorfa, captain Danny Batth and Scott Golbourne playing alongside Williamson.

Jackett said the 6ft 4in loanee - who is out of contract at St James' Park next summer - had primarily brought experience and a physical presence to the side.

"He's brought a physical presence in both boxes, good distribution on Saturday (against Burnley) as well, passing out from the back which will suits us," he said.

"There's a lot that works there.

"If you looking at the size and presence that he brings, with him and Danny Batth coming up for set pieces, it's something we need to capitalise from, albeit his main job is to help things at the back.

"In terms of the mix of defenders that we have his experience and physical presence have been good so far."

Williamson joined at around the same time at Grant Holt, whose deal runs until January 2.

Holt has been limited to two substitute appearances, but Jackett said the former Norwich City and Villa striker had impressed him in training.

"Forward options are crucial and we need as many as we can possibly get," he added.

"He's got a really good attitude and in terms of holding the ball up, and then particularly late in the game he can make contributions and can help us, can help Benik Afobe and Adam Le Fondre."
