Wolves striker Adam Le Fondre insisted he was no diver after controversially being denied a penalty during the 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

Le Fondre was booked for diving by referee Christopher Kavanagh.

He had latched on to a back pass and attempted to go past Terriers keeper Jed Steer, but with most of the home crowd expecting a penalty and a red card – and Steer beginning to walk off the pitch – Kavanagh showed Le Fondre a yellow card.

"For me it's a clear penalty," the on-loan Cardiff City frontman said. "I had read the back pass and was in on the keeper.

"I have gone around him and he has caught my trailing leg and I think the keeper's reaction says it all – he knows he has caught me.

"I had an open goal and as a striker I am gutted I wasn't able to finish the chance off.

"The ref's decided to give me a yellow for it and I have just got to bounce back from the decision.

"The main thing is that we got the three points, it was a great win and that is all we can ask for."

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett said he too was expecting a penalty, and expressed relief that the decision wasn't a crucial one in terms of the result.

"Most of the time referees will give a penalty and a red card and I was expecting that," Jackett

said. "But we have to accept his decision – some you get and some you don't. "I felt at the time the referee was going to do nothing but give the penalty.

"He deemed it as a free-kick the other way.

"While most of the time you will get that decision I am pleased that in the end it wasn't crucial."

Le Fondre impressed up front alongside Afobe in what was his fourth league start for the club.

He has two goals to his name so far and insisted he was 'getting there' in terms of match sharpness.

"Benik is a really good player and I have got on the same wavelength as him," Le Fondre added. "It seems to be working really well with him in the '10' and me in the 'nine' and it's a good partnership developing and we are enjoying playing together.

"If you would have said we could have got seven points out of nine at the start of the week we would have taken it – it's a really good week.

"I'm loving it here, it took a bit of time to get fit and up to match sharpness with no pre-season but I am getting there."
