Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey was today set to break the club's silence after owner Steve Morgan's shock decision to quit and sell-up.

The club had refused to comment on the reasons behind Morgan's decision to sell his 100 per cent shareholding since the bombshell announcement on Monday evening.

Moxey, who has been placed in control of the club in Morgan's absence, will answer questions after almost 72 hours of silence from Molineux.

Rumours of an angry bust-up with Wolves fans before Saturday's draw at Preston North End are thought by many to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

However, it is understood Morgan's decision to sell left the club's hierarchy stunned before the hastily-prepared statement was issued.

Speaking after Tuesday night's win at Fulham, head coach Kenny Jackett revealed he too had been left shocked by the decision.

Jackett, who spoke to his players about Morgan's announcement before the game at Craven Cottage, revealed in the Express & Star yesterday: "I was surprised, I didn't know it was coming."

Meanwhile, skipper Danny Batth thanked the outgoing owner for his work at the club, adding: "From myself through the whole team and the academy, we would like to thank Steve for his commitment and investment in Wolves.

"He's a good man who always makes time to interact with everyone around the club, and has led the way in laying down an excellent academy and overall club infrastructure.

"His influence has also been seen beyond just Wolves, and I know he has made a valuable contribution to the city of Wolverhampton as a whole.

"I know Steve remains the owner until such time as the club is sold, and I am sure he will continue with all his support throughout this transition."
