Boss Kenny Jackett was deflated after Wolves failed to beat nine-man Preston at Deepdale.

Joe Garner and Bailey Wright saw red for the hosts on 20 and 80 minutes respectively.

Simon Grayson's Preston had taken an early lead through Daniel Johnson, and both outplayed and outfought Wolves for the rest of the first half.

The second period was a different story, with Wolves laying siege to the Preston goal, particular in the frantic and dramatic closing minutes.

They equalised in stoppage time through a wonderful strike from Kevin McDonald, but despite that two-man disadvantage Preston held on for a point.

Jackett said: "All of our chances came late on and, by the end, we were disappointed with a point. We moved the ball well, we got the ball into wide areas, as often happens in situations like that.

"We had all of our chances late when, perhaps, they were weary and converted one that was an excellent strike.

"Dominic Iorfa had a good header, Adam Le Fondre had a good header, Benik Afobe had three good chances that he'll be disappointed we didn't convert."

They faced a tenacious home side who valiantly fought with 10 men for so long with a vociferous home crowd behind them.

Jackett was pleased with his team's build-up play - and the contributions of substitutes Sheyi Ojo and Nathan Byrne - but felt his team lacked 'brute force' in the Preston box.

He said: "There's craft and guile but when they're down in the box sometimes you need a bit of brute force as well, we needed to be first to that.

"There were a lot of balls along our line where we attack it, generally, and you have to be first.

"It wasn't easy and it looked like we weren't going to break them down and all of the chances came late on.

"We didn't have many good opportunities during the course of the game despite having all of the ball and we weren't first to that ball in the box.

"Fair play to Preston, their centre backs defended their box very well for an awful long time and their goalkeeper had an excellent day.

"The two wide men (Byrne and Ojo) looked like they had life and a bit of zip about them. During the course of the second half our most effective line going forward was the ball out to Ojo.

"So far with Sheyi he's impressed a lot as a substitute and, on his starts, he hasn't able to find that consistency but he's only 18 and I think, during the course of the season, will keep improving."
