Deliberations continue over whether former Newcastle United front man, who is training with Wolves after being released by Crystal Palace in the summer, will win a deal at Molineux.

He featured for 68 minutes as Wolves went down 3-2 at Swansea.

Club captain Batth came through the full 90 minutes on his 25th birthday – increasing his chances of a return to first-team action for Saturday's trip to Deepdale to face Preston North End.

Portuguese winger Eusebio Bancessi scored both of Wolves' goals, one a late penalty, with Oliver McBurnie, Daniel Alfei and Daniel James netting for the Welsh side.

Ameobi, aged 33, was replaced by a player less than half his age, 16-year-old Niall Ennis.

Kenny Jackett said ahead of the game that if Ameobi signed for Wolves it would most likely be on a short-term deal.

"We'll see how he does in that particular game (at Swansea), whether we then extend that and see whether he can bring some experience to our frontline," Jackett said.

Of the 6ft 3in striker's qualities, the Wolves boss added: "Experience, power, size, whether he can offset some of the forwards we've got, and give us some balance, ability to hold the ball up, certainly some presence in the 18-yard box."
