Premier League side Norwich City had three bids for Afobe turned down before the transfer window closed, including a final offer of £10m.

Afobe kept quiet while the speculation rumbled on, until sending a cryptic tweet six minutes after Tuesday's 6pm transfer deadline, saying: "Out of darkness cometh light."

Boss Kenny Jackett had sympathy for his star striker whose future has been up in the air for week, but he praised Afobe's attitude during what had been a 'difficult time.'

Jackett said: "He's been very professional. I've got a lot of sympathy for him, it's a very difficult situation, we've been honest with him, we've told him every time there's been a bid.

"It's been a difficult situation for him and a difficult time. We understand that, because you're always thinking what's the best thing for my future, my family.

"But he's been very professional about it, he's kept his own counsel which is a good way of handling things.

"We want to make sure he's happy here and that the side are playing to his strengths."
