Wolves have rejected a third bid from Norwich City for Benik Afobe.

The bid, believed to be around £10million, is £2m higher than yesterday's improved £8m offer.

But it still falls way short of the kind of money Wolves would be prepared to let their star player leave for.

Benik Afobe

Wolves have repeatedly reiterated that Afobe is not for sale. It is thought the Canaries would need to lodge an offer of £15m or upwards to snare the former Arsenal man.

Kenny Jackett seemed irked by Norwich's continued interest when the subject was put to him after last night's League Cup win over Barnet.

"He's a Wolves player and when the window shuts he'll still be a Wolves player," he said.

"There is an enormous amount of speculation. But he won't be leaving.

"We're looking at the whole picture, the amount of time left in the window, the overall prices, there's so much to consider and everything points to Wolves not letting anybody go."

Newcastle are also believed to have an interest in Afobe.

And the speculation - despite Wolves' strong-worded recent statement insisting Afobe would not be sold - looks set to continue until the transfer window closes next Tuesday.

The club issued a statement on the matter last week, the contents of which they claim is exactly their same stance despite two more bids, thought to be £8m and then £10m.

It read: "In response, Benik was bought from Arsenal in January and other players arrived in the summer, to strengthen the team for the strongest possible challenge on promotion this season.

"Therefore, neither Benik or any of Wolves' first-team forward players will be sold this season.

"Benik has developed into a player of key importance to Wolves and the club's plans for this campaign.

"Wolves have previously resisted the opportunity to sell other key first-team players in this and other recent transfer windows.

"As far as the club is concerned, there is no need to make any further comments or speculation about this issue."
