Wolves need to accrue a winning mentality, Kenny Jackett believes, as he prepares to select a strong side in the Capital One Cup tonight.

Jackett is expected to make just two or three changes as Wolves look to build on Saturday's 2-1 opening-day victory over Blackburn Rovers.

The first round tie is the start of three games in eight days at Molineux, with relegated Premier League sides Hull City and Queens Park Rangers visiting for two big Championship encounters on Sunday and next Wednesday.

And Jackett was keen to stress how important it was to build a 'winning culture' at Wolves, meaning they'll be taking the tie seriously.

"What we want to do is try and build up a winning mentality within the club and get the side into a rhythm," he said. "Is the cup as important as promotion from the Championship? Obviously it's not.

"But it is a chance and an opportunity, early in the season, for the team to take shape and certain people to stake their claim and build up a winning culture at the club.

Adam Le Fondre could make Molineux debut tonight

"We want a winning mentality, particularly with two big games to come against teams relegated from the Premier League."

Loan signings Adam le Fondre and Sheyi Ojo could be handed their full Wolves debuts after coming off the bench at Ewood Park.

Young strikers Bright Enobakhare and Bradley Reid are possibilities to be named on the bench if Jackett opts to fill out his squad with youth.

Only Jed Wallace (knee), George Saville (knee) and captain Danny Batth (foot) are definitely absent through injury.

If they do beat Newport County, it will be Kenny Jackett's first victory in the League Cup as Wolves boss.

Wolves crashed out to Northampton Town last season, losing 3-2 at Molineux, and lost 1-0 at Morecambe a season earlier.

"I don't think it was complacency, last year – we gave three poor goals away and there were individual mistakes that gave us a mountain to climb," Jackett said. "Losing to Northampton was a poor result and we were disappointed, it's not a nice feeling losing any game.

"We know a lot about Newport, we've done our homework and we know their strengths and their weaknesses.

"Terry Butcher's been a very successful manager and is a great football man.

"We also know they'll be relishing coming to Molineux and raising their game."

Wolves signed midfielder Lee Evans from Newport and the 20-year-old will certainly hope to be involved.

As for the Welsh side, a nightmare injury list has dampened Newport's prospects of causing an upset. They have just 14 senior players available but Exiles boss Butcher is excited to see how his young team get on.

He said: "In many ways it is a game we could have done without because of the injury count but it's great to go to a Championship side who should be pushing for promotion. Our players have come in after Saturday and they've got a bounce in their stride because they're playing against Wolves. It's one that excites you more than anything else."
