Wolves travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers in Saturday's curtain-raiser. After two morale-boosting performances against Villa and Doncaster Rovers, the Wanderers chief is happy with his squad.

He this week brought in loan signings Adam Le Fondre and Sheyi Ojo from Cardiff City and Liverpool to bolster the ranks. "We're all looking forward to it and I do feel the players are ready," Jackett said.

"I'm very excited and pleased with the players' work rates last week, it was a good response to one or two lacklustre performances and they have to continue that. The team showed a good spirit against Villa and Doncaster, which you always need and which I'm pleased with.

"I feel we've gradually built up to the start which we're ready for and looking forward to.

"It's been interesting for me looking at the team, what we feel we need, what we don't, what strengths we have, where we are in terms of fringe players.

"We didn't want to be behind in fitness and attitude – they're two things you can take big responsibility for and fitness and attitude have to be there to promote any ability that you have."

The games come thick and fast for Wolves in the opening weeks.

They will play six games in the first 22 days – which increases to seven if they progress to the second round of the Capital One Cup.

And Jackett stressed the importance of hitting the ground running.

He said: "Starting well is vital – so much of your season is based on your start, you don't want to be recovering.

"It's the way the Championship is – you have six/seven games in a short period of time, you have two weeks off, and that's repeated through August, September and October, the games aren't spread out."
