The Austrian centre half was signed by former Molineux boss Stale Solbakken from Austria Vienna for around £500,000 in 2012.

However in three years he has played just three times in Wolves colours.

All those appearances came in 2012/13 - starts against Northampton and Chelsea in the League Cup and a 10-minute substitute appearance in a 2-0 Championship win at Ipswich.

Margreitter was loaned to FC Copenhagen - where he was reunited with Solbakken - in 2013.

And last season the 26-year-old had a successful four-month loan spell with Chesterfield in League One.

Kenny Jackett revealed last month that both Margreitter and Bjorn Sigurdarson were surplus to requirements.

And now the player and the club have reached an agreement to cancel his contract, which had one year left to run.

In a statement Wolves said: "Margreitter would like to thank everyone at Wolves, and the club would like to wish him all the best for the future."
