Wolves have appointed former Birmingham City player Jerry Gill as their new under-18s coach.more

The 44-year-old replaces Chris Iwelumo, who stepped down on Monday just six days after taking the job.

Gill, who has been coaching with Norwich's academy for the past two years, was one of several candidates who reached the final stages of the recruitment process before Iwelumo was initially appointed last week.

With Iwelumo having a quick change of heart in terms of taking on the role, Gill has now agreed to take the role.

"We are really pleased to have been able to make a swift appointment over the last couple of days," said Wolves academy manager Gareth Prosser.

"As I said last week, there were a small number of outstanding candidates we were fortunate to interview over the lengthy process and Jerry was among those.

"He has good experience, did very well in the practical session he took with the scholars, and we can't wait for him to get started.

"He will head to Holland tomorrow to meet the squad as they continue to step up their pre-season preparations."

As a player, Gill did not make his professional debut until the age of 27 having played non-league up until that point.

But from there he went on to enjoy a 14-year career in the game, including several notable achievements.

Chris Iwelumo left Wolves after just six days

He was part of the Birmingham City squad promoted via the play-offs in the 2001/02 season, and had previously played in most of the rounds as they reached the League Cup Final in 2001.

Later in his career he was a pivotal part of the Cheltenham Town squad which won promotion from League Two via the play-offs in 2006.

He started his coaching career as player-coach with Forest Green Rovers, and after picking up further experience joined Norwich City, like Wolves a Category One Academy, in 2013.

After spending a year as Professional Development Coach, he spent last season overseeing the club's Under-18 squad, the role he now takes up at Wolves.

Meanwhile Wolves midfielder Zeli Ismail has joined League One Burton Albion on loan until January.

The 21-year-old is looking to bounce back after missing the second half of last season through injury, having begun the campaign on loan at Notts County.

Ismail previously appeared for Burton two seasons ago, where he made 15 appearances, scoring three goals.

The Albanian-born player has one year left on his current deal at Molineux.
