Libor Kozak put Villa ahead of two occasions, but Wolves levelled first through David Edwards and then late on through Benik Afobe.

In front of a bumper Molineux crowd - and a boisterous atmosphere - this was no ordinary pre-season encounter.

There were chances galore and some end-to-end action, as Wolves experienced a great workout with the season now just a week and a half away.

Jackett criticised his side for lacking 'hunger and desire' after the dull 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

This time, his thoughts were the opposite as spirited Wolves showed heart to deservedly claimed a thrilling draw.

Jackett said: "We showed good appetite, I felt there was a link with the supporters and the players, they could see some effort and, at times, some quality and certainly some character.

"If we're going to be successful we need to develop that link, keep it and work hard to try to bring it on if we can.

"It didn't seem like a pre-season game at all. I'm delighted with the fact all the players who started played the full game and, at the end of a high-tempo game, there are no injuries.

"I felt that Villa showed spells of quality in possession and we grew into the game. It's something we have to learn from, the way they keep the ball.

"We worked very hard and developed as the game went on and by the end we were very pleased with the performance."

Jackett was pleased with the shape and performance of his side, despite the sluggish opening, praised 'key player' Edwards for his equaliser.

Of the prolific Afobe and Dicko, who linked superbly in a tenacious second half performance from Wolves, Jackett said: "Both fed off the encouragement they got from the crowd.

"For them it was a very good workout physically."

Wolves - who kept up their unbeaten pre-season record - travel to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, before the league campaign starts on August 8.
