Wolves midfielder Kevin McDonald missed their 1-0 friendly victory over Burton as he is 'unsettled', boss Kenny Jackett revealed.

The head coach decided against selecting McDonald, with talks over a new contract seemingly no nearer a conclusion.

McDonald has 12 months left on his current contract and rejected Wolves' opening offer of a new deal.

Since then the player has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation, saying the contract Wolves offered was a 'basic increase' and that the club weren't fighting to keep him.

Jackett said that on Friday in particular McDonald's mental state was not right.

He said: "He wasn't selected for the game today by myself, he's unsettled with his ongoing contractual situation so I decided not to play him and look at other combinations."

Did McDonald himself refuse to play? "No, I decided," Jackett said.

"He would have played if I'd have told him to but I felt he was unsettled, particularly yesterday, and then took the decision to let him think about the situation and sum it up again on Monday."

Jackett also revealed that Charlton had not yet lodged a bid for winger James Henry, as rumours had suggested towards the end of last week.

The London club have, though, made an inquiry and Jackett didn't rule out the fact Henry could leave Wolves.

"There isn't a move imminent although Charlton have made an inquiry, although no more than that," he said.

When asked if he was looking to move Henry on, Jackett said: "We'll see. For James he's inside the last year of his contract and we'll see over the coming weeks how he figures for Wolves and exactly where he fits it.

"There was an inquiry but there hasn't been anything more than that. He was fit but wasn't selected."

Of the Burton victory, Jackett felt his players had a good workout in what was a tight game at the Pirelli Stadium.

Nouha Dicko's first half winner gave Wolves their third win from three pre-season games.

"I felt the first half was a competitive game, a very good game as well, if we came to Burton in a cup tie it'd be a tough game for us," Jackett said.

"Second half there wasn't enough flow about it, probably too many substitutions from myself and Jimmy (Floyd Hasselbaink, Burton manager).

"I didn't think with all the substitutions we made we necessarily got better either, I thought the side in the second half looked disjointed.

"But it's good for me to see those players and make sure I make the right assessment going forward."
