The 17-year-old caught the eye during Wolves' pre-season trip to Clairefontaine last week.

Ronan featured in both first-team friendlies and certainly didn't look out of place alongside seasoned pros.

He followed that up with 45 minutes for the under-21 side against Walsall yesterday.

And Ronan is hoping to build on his progress in the coming weeks and months.

"I think my aim for this season was to try and get an appearance in the first team and I've managed to do that in a friendly," he said.

"So I guess I can maybe aim to try and get a league appearance during the season.

"I played a few times for the 21s last year and I think that will be the plan this season but it's just about doing as well as I can to progress."

Ronan said being selected in the 23-man squad for the week in France was unexpected, with him finding out just two days before the trip.

The midfielder felt comfortable around the first team players and now knows what standard he needs to be at to get into Kenny Jackett's squad.

"Obviously I knew all the lads before I went but it was a good opportunity to get to know them a bit more and speak to them more," he added.

"It helps that we often get the chance to train with the first team so to understand what is required.

"I was pleased to get my first appearance against Chambly when I thought I played okay and I tried to go out against Paris and improve on my performance.

"It was good that the gaffer selected a few of us to go over there and hopefully shows that there are more players coming through the academy who have a chance of competing to get into the first team.

"Being involved with the first team has to be seen as a positive.

"It shows that you are moving forward in the right direction and you just have to do as well as you can when you get the chance."

Wolves fans were left wanting more after Ronan's cameos in France.

And while the youngster said it was nice to see a positive reaction from supporters, he was keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

"You do see things on social media and fans complimenting you," he said.

"But it only takes one bad game to bring you back down to earth.

"So it is about carrying on working hard and trying to impress.

"I just want to keep going in trying to become a regular in the team which could take a few years or maybe hopefully comes sooner,

"But I am certainly not getting carried away and just need to keep going and keep improving."
