Wolves are not contemplating losing contract rebel Kevin McDonald this summer, as it emerged Richard Stearman could have two years left on his deal.

McDonald has rejected Wolves' first offer of a new contract leaving him in limbo with 12 months remaining on his deal, amid strong interest from Championship rivals Fulham.

Nothing has changed since last week when McDonald publicly expressed his frustration at the situation.

With the midfielder keen to stay and Wolves wanting to keep the 26-year-old, a deal seems more likely than not.

But until he puts pen to paper the saga rumbles on.

And head coach Kenny Jackett said McDonald would be a 'big loss' if he were to depart.

"It's not something that we want to necessarily contemplate at the moment," Jackett said.

"He has a year of his contract left, it's not like the Sako situation where he's not here, he's contracted to Wolves, he has a year left.

"He's working towards getting full fitness, match sharpness and integrating with the team to make sure we're as strong as we can be when we kick off on August 8.

"There hasn't been an agreement and there hasn't been an update, it's something we understand that we have to address but it hasn't been settled yet."

Jackett reiterated how important a player McDonald has been since he joined from Sheffield United.

"From his point of view, he's saying the same that he's said in the press; he's initially been unsettled by the offer and the fact that we haven't come to terms.

"He's had a really good couple of seasons, a very good two years. We hope that turns into three and then many more."

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Stearman, initially thought to be out of contract next summer, essentially has two years left as Wolves hold the option of another season on the deal.

The details on his contract were not published when Stearman signed the deal in 2014.

He was another player to have interested Fulham earlier this summer but the double player of the season or 2014/15 is set to remain at Molineux for at least another two years.
