Michael Jacobs and Benik Afobe had earlier given Wolves a 2-1 half time lead, in what was an entertaining game and a good workout for Kenny Jackett's squad.

Boss Jackett picked what was arguably his strongest available team, with Afobe and Nouka Dicko leading the Wolves attack.

New signing Conor Coady was in midfield alongside Kevin McDonald, whose contract situation remains up in the air.

Jacobs was given a chance to claim the left wing spot made vacant by the departed Bakary Sako and Jonathan Flatt started in goal, with first-choice Carl Ikeme sent home yesterday with a knee injury.

Despite the strength of the team, it was a slow start from Wolves French third-tier side Chambly hailed the fixture as the most prestigious in their short 26-year history.

With a game of pre-season already behind them, made most of the early running.

Flatt was called upon to push a stinging 20-yard shot wide in the second minute, before palming a left-wing free kick around the post soon after.

Wolves were being caught in possession too often as Chambly made the stronger start.

However ,Jackett's team burst into life in the 16th minute when Dicko, fed by striker partner Afobe, struck a rasping drive from the right of the box.

Michael Jacobs of Wolverhampton Wanderers celebrates after scoring a goal to make it 1-1.

Wolves first-half: Flatt; Iorfa, Ebanks-Landell, Stearman, Golbourne, Van La Parra, Coady, McDonald, Jacobs, Afobe, Dicko.

Wolves second-half: Flatt (Burgoyne 67), Doherty, Hayden, Hause, Deslandes; Henry, Weeks (Wilson 67), Edwards, Rowe, Coady, Enobakhare. [/breakout]

It smacked off the inside of the near post and rolled agonisingly along the goal line.

Five minutes later, though, Wolves fell behind when hesitant defending allowed Chambly to work an opportunity around the box and a 20-yard shot squeezed through Flatt's hands.

The goalkeeper slowed the pace of the ball but, despite a despairing dive, Flatt couldn't stop the ball going over the line.

Van La Parra whistled one wide as Wolves looked to respond and then, after their best move of the game, they fashioned an equaliser.

A prolonged passing move ended with the impressive Coady whipping a first-time cross from the right and there was Jacobs to nod a diving header into the corner.

The goal settled Wolves down and Afobe ran from deep before scuffing one wide.

And, on the stroke of half-time, they edged in front when Rajiv van La Parra's shot was deflected into Afobe's path by Dicko, and last season's 32-goal striker stabbed home from close range.

It's was almost all change for the second-half, as only Flatt re-took to the field

Youngsters Aaron Hayden, Declan Weeks, Connor Ronan and Enobakhare were all given a chance to shine, with David Edwards taking the captain's armband off Richard Stearman in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Shortly after half-time, Kortney Hause should have made it 3-1 to Wolves but headed Tommy Rowe's free kick down and over the bar when it seemed easier to score from a few yards out.

Harry Burgoyne replaced Flatt in goal, while 18-year-old striker Donovan Wilson replaced Weeks as Wolves moved back to 4-4-2.

But the second-half lacked the goalmouth action and indeed the fast pace of the first, with Wolves struggling to create much from midfield.

Chambly then levelled things up when their number eight edged in front of Hayden to nod a left-wing cross past a helpless Burgoyne.

Wilson was looking lively up front and he engineered two chances in two minutes with his pace, haring into the box both times only to be denied by smothering saves from the Chambly goalkeeper.

Then, with seven minutes left, the former Bristol Rovers youngster almost restored Wolves lead, with his goal-bound first-time short from Matt Doherty's cut-back unwittingly blocked by Enobakhare.

After quick feet from Enobakhare Wolves fashioned another late chance three minutes from time, but after the ball was worked to Ronan his curling shot was saved.

Then Wolves' pressure finally told when Enobakhare kept his cool to beat the Chambly goalkeeper from close range.
