Boss Kenny Jackett has urged midfielder Kevin McDonald to keep working hard for Wolves - and reiterated his desire to keep the Scot at the club.

McDonald yesterday gave a potentially inflammatory interview, in which he admitted his future was in the balance and that Wolves had put forward a derisory contract offer.

The 26-year-old has 12 months left on his current deal and thinks there's 'no indication' that a satisfactory offer was on its way, which he called 'unsettling'.

McDonald has attracted two bids from Fulham, both believed to be around the £1million mark and both turned down by Wolves.

And Jackett today moved to cool the situation by urging McDonald to focus on his football while the contract situation was ongoing.

The head coach told the Express & Star: "I have seen the comments, he's obviously unhappy with the contract offer, we can see that.

"It's a situation where it's ongoing, he's contracted to Wolves, he's working in pre-season and focusing on that first game at Blackburn - they're the most important things.

"Sometimes situations can't be resolved immediately. We understand where it is and we know exactly where he is. The contract situation is in the background, but him working towards full fitness is my priority.

"He's a Wolves player right now and yes we would like to keep him, definitely."

McDonald has been a key player for Wolves in the past two seasons since joining from Sheffield United. Was Jackett disappointed that the Scot had aired his feelings outside the club?

The Wolves chief said: "No, not necessarily, it's how he feels, it's his opinion. It's not as if there weren't bits and pieces out there anyway. It clarifies the situation.

"It's an ongoing process but the most important thing is as a Wolves player, which he is at the moment, he focuses on the job ahead.

"It's not something we're turning away from but he's a contracted player who needs to work hard towards the build-up to the Blackburn game and that's my message to him."
