Wolves move for midfield Terrier

Wolves are lining up a swoop for Huddersfield Town midfielder Conor Coady.

Former Liverpool man Coady, aged 22, made a big impression with the Terriers last season and missed just one league game.

He can also play in defence and scored a 30-yard screamer at Molineux during Huddersfield’s 3-1 win last October.

It is thought Wolves would have to pay up to £2m to secure Coady’s signature.

He only joined Town last summer for around £400,000, having spent 2013/14 on loan at Sheffield United in League One.

Huddersfield recently signed former Middlesbrough man Dean Whitehead and could be tempted to cash in on the highly-rated Merseyside-born youngster.

He left Anfield after playing just two first team games for the Reds having come through the Liverpool youth system.

Coady spent 2013/14 on loan at League One side Sheffield United, playing 50 games in all competitions and scoring six goals.

Last year he netted three times in 48 matches for Huddersfield.

If Coady did move to Molineux it would leave Jackett overloaded with midfielders.

They currently have Kevin McDonald, Jack Price, David Edwards, Lee Evans, Tommy Rowe and George Saville in central midfield, while James Henry, Michael Jacobs and Jed Wallace can also play centrally.

Jacobs has been challenged to stake a claim for Bakary Sako's soon-to-be-vacant left wing role.

Sign him. He's a bargain at £2 mill and another example of the Premiership quality players previously loaned out to lower league clubs that we failed to research or attract, like Bamford, Ince and Pritchard.

All players who helped their loan clubs reach the play-offs ahead of us.

I wrote on a different thread that the loan market area for Premiership players was one we should look at and we should be prepared to pay their Premiership wages to get them in, if that is what is required.

He couldn't have cost Sheff Utd much when loaned to them. This is an area where Morgan can smarten up.

If this one is available to sign though at £2 mill - get him.

Maybe this guy will work. We need a big season from Savile. He was messed about last season and barely contributed. Such a pity he debuted in the demolition by Derby when the wheels came off our promotion bid. Jacobs will not be another Sako. We will NEVER replace him , just finda different wat of playing. Make MORE chances, via MORE crosses and MORE shots with MORE goals. At least 20 shots on goal per game please. Some games we did not make 3 shots on target. Have a go and be enterprising. Practise crossing the ball more (is this such a hard skill?.............then DO IT MORE OFTEN). NO short corners...........a waste of time. Learn to win ugly if you have to

wolfo

does anybody actually know anything about this player before slating the club?

having checked he aint worth 2million for a start, the lad had 3 assists and 3 goals last season, played 40+ games but not enough goals or assists for me, we already have players in evans and price who can play the same role and hopefully saville and wallace can step up to the plate aswell.

this is express and star stirring media nonsense again, some of the players the media have been linking us with are laughable well over priced and dont fit our policy. With many clubs admitted to stirring, such as the mason deal, whittingham, also heard wood never spoke to the club so never even discussed a contract, never mind a move.

this is an e+s filler story while sako ties up his move, his contract ran out on the 30th yet we are still waiting to see who he's signed for...?

yorkypud

Filler story??? Err.... He signed

Hey, another midfield player! I was getting worried that we had started to look at forwards, goalies and a central defender, but no, a few more midfield players. How many is that now?

Farmer Ted

It's all about the right midfielder which most of us have recognised. You clearly haven't been watching.

Sir Billy Quiet

We are building a big squad of new signings!

He will be the replacement for MacDonald who was sold yesterday to Fulham for £5M. He will fit in nicely with the other new signings made this week.

wolfo

Havent heard anything about that, dont think kenny would sell macdonald even for 5million. being one of his main players, cant see it happening but money talks I suppose.

they only upped their bid to 1.25mill from 1mill, cant see em going up to 5million?

Sir Billy Quiet

No I just made it up. Hoping for a job with the E&S soon.....

Hatherton Beerwolf

I really hope the last line in the above article is a bit of E&S stirring.

If the ambition of the club is to replace our leading scorer \ assists with a squad player deemed not good enough for the championship, then we should all get ready for a very long, hard season.

This may come across as cynical to some.........but I wonder if the available building land has dried up a bit.

Bedford Wolf

Sign him, exactly what we need. Perfect to play alongside McDonald. Totally different type of midfielder to the likes of Saville, Rowe, Evans etc.

The Flying Winger

Interesting hope he Fits the bill this time.

Good news from Jackett that the slate is clean, would like to see Jacobs given an opportunity and Henry on the other flank.

oldergold

How many midfielder,s does a club need in this HARDEST of division to get out of, how many game plans can you use before the opposition know you team etc etc , building a club is about all of this , a settled side uninjured throughout the season is a stable side ,yet un predictable? We can argue till the Baggies win the premiership, one ! Two ! Up front with a selection of attacking or defending middlers is one option most gaffers would like Twenty a season striker is great ! But if that's all, goals against had better be nil , McAlinden could just be the striker on the bench we need ! and 38,000 backers every home game Come on you Wolves

wolvesmatt

I think we were linked with this lad last year and at that time he would have been a good signing., if I remember correctly, Huddersfield paid around £400,000. Although we do need a good solid central midfielder, I'm not sure he is what we need at the moment. His goal output isn't much better than Price or MacDonald and without Sako that is where our midfield will fall short next season. We cant just rely on Dicko and Afobe to score our goals next season and although we are apparently after another striker, he will likely play as an alternative to either of our front two rather than as a third forward.

As for comments about us having too many central midfielders, yes we do seem overloaded there but for the latter part of last season, Kenny used MacDonald, Price and occasionally Edwards. Evans was lucky to get a place on the bench, Saville was loaned out with little success it seems and Rowe even when fit made little impact

Albrightondek

My first inclination is that this is just another speculative story. The headline and sub-headline suggests that an offer is going to be made - well, we shall see.

From the little I know about the player he could be the sort that might well be a suitable partner for McDonald. He's described on wikipedia as a defensive midfielder, which would allow McDonald to play further forward.

Maybe Wolves can make an offer for him with Savile and/or Rowe going in the other direction.

Robert

The season approaches without any visible sign of improvements or replacements to the team to turn out for the first game. As a long standing supporter (some 65 years) uit is greatly disappointing that the Club appear loud in intentions but lacking in the means to progress. Twice Premiership membership has been achived with great support and expectancy only for the lack of resources in Premiership standard to be denied fruition due to failure to strengthen the team to Premiership standard. We have never been good enough to survive more than one season in the Prem and unless the mindset of the Club changes and some decent investments in quality. proven Premiership standard players is forthcoming I see no reason to expect anything but another season of "nearly but not quite good enough."

The Club appear to have high ambitions but the inability to proceed to Premiership sustainability. For us older supporters time is running out to see our Club operate successfully and attain long term Prem status and I fear this is a pipe dream..

Solentwolves

Certainly for us older supporters, I guess time is marching on - all too quickly it seems - but I feel that this will be the season when our dream will be realised and I will get a return on my first ever football bet.

If we have to have another midfielder then it has to be a midfield general type, someone who can drive the team forwards both by standard of play and personality, a Mike Bailey type.

Solentwolves

We've found players who have put steel into our side before - Cameron, Rae, Ince. Such players make the difference.

old golds worth more

Yep, and we have yet to find a player who has the same qualities as those you mention. Hopefully this Coady fella might be from the same mould as Ince etc, here's hoping.

Gerald FitzGibbon

Paul Ince for £5 million and then we could maybe manage with just a reserve goalie. Should see us through.

old golds worth more

Think you will find the Paul Ince retired from playing football some time ago! Now if you really mean't his son Tom, then we won't be signing him either, as he has signed for Derby for (their) club record fee of a quoted £4.75 million!
