Long-time Wolves target Chris Wood has signed for Leeds United.

As revealed last night, Wolves pulled out of the race to sign the former Albion man as they were not prepared to meet a transfer fee approaching £3million.

Leeds were prepared to pay the cash and so Wolves ended their chase. It's also thought they were offering a longer contract and higher wages.

Wolves won't willing to stretch to that level for a player who would likely have been back-up to Nouha Dicko and Benik Afobe.

Wolves will now turn their attention elsewhere as Kenny Jackett bids to beef up his forward line following the departures of Kevin Doyle, Jake Cassidy and Leon Clarke.

It was initially thought that Leicester would have accepted around the £1m mark for the New Zealand international, but sources have revealed their desired figure was three times that amount.

The 23-year-old has just 12 months left on his deal at the King Power Stadium and cost the Foxes around £2m plus add-ons, when he moved from Albion in 2013.

Wolves had hoped the East Midlands club would accept a far lower fee. They have long held an interest in the player – boss Kenny Jackett had him on loan at Milwall in 2012.

Wood scored 11 goals in 18 starts for the Lions and also netted prolifically for Birmingham on loan a year earlier. He scored just one goal last season for Leicester, on the opening day of last season.

He joined Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town on loan towards the end of the season but failed to find the net in eight appearances.
