Wolves primed for another rollercoaster

Wolves fans should strap in for another rollercoaster ride next season – that was the verdict of midfielder Dave Edwards as the squad returned for pre-season.

Kenny Jackett's team flirted with the top two last season before plummeting and then narrowly missing out on a top-six finish.

And Edwards said the players believe they can improve on last season as they prepare for a promotion assault on the top six. He spoke on the first day of pre-season training where the players were put through their paces at Compton Park in a tough first day back.

Edwards said: "Last year our ambition in-house was to try to be up there battling for promotion even though we maybe weren't shouting it from the rooftops.

"And again this time, we will be one of the teams who will want to be up there in what is a very difficult division. We came close to the top six last season and feel we can improve.

"It's going to be an interesting season, no doubt a rollercoaster as usual, but hopefully with more ups and downs. It is all about consistency, and we showed that in parts last year but had that big drop in November that really cost us. Apart from that we were reasonably consistent and that is what we'd like to reproduce throughout the season."

Jackett has added two players to his ranks in Jed Wallace and Sylvain Deslandes, but more are sure to follow as he looks to strength last season's squad.

Welshman Edwards welcomed Wallace's arrival and said he was focused on claiming a first team spot.

"I don't think there has been a year here when a new midfielder or two hasn't arrived in a season and this will be no different," he said.

"You always welcome a new face with open arms and hope they have a good Wolves career.

"After that everyone's own aim is to be in that starting eleven on that first day at Blackburn and I will be working hard to try and be in there."
