Kenny Jackett's leadership qualities have been praised with the Wolves boss doing an 'outstanding' job since joining the club.

Jackett has overseen two seasons of success at Molineux, with a record-breaking League One title campaign followed by a strong promotion push last season.

Wolves of course narrowly missed out on the top six, accruing more points than any other team in history not to make the Championship play-offs.

And Kevin Thelwell – hailed as Wolves' unsung hero by Jackett last year –believes the head coach's leadership skills have played a big part in that success.

Thelwell was part of the team that recruited Jackett in 2013 and the pair have since formed a hugely effective partnership.

Head of football development and recruitment Thelwell said: "Kenny has done an outstanding job.

"We're able to work really closely together, we communicate several times a day and our offices are opposite each other.

"We're all working together in tandem. He's a strong leader and what strong leaders do is make informed decisions.

"That means that it might not always be his idea that's the best one. He'll often take advice and opinion from all members of staff. But then the buck stops with him.

"He's got that ability to talk to us, think about what people say, and then make an informed decision. It's a good example of a strong leader."

Thelwell and Jackett were working in tandem to achieve the aim of promotion to the Premier League, with the pressure of being among the title favourites being embraced by the players and backroom staff.

Thelwell added: "I said at the time (of recruiting) that it was really clear that Kenny was the right man.

"He understood it, he understood how he would work in it, he understood how he could help us develop it and he understood exactly what was important to us.

"When we were doing our diligence on Kenny the key thing that really came back and stood out was a really honest man of substance and that's exactly what he's been.

"It'd be very easy for him to come in and go right I want to do my own thing – he hasn't done that. He's worked really hard to work with us and develop everything here."
