Wolves striker Benik Afobe has hailed his 'breakthrough' season as he looks to make an impact with England Under 21s.

Afobe scored 32 goals last season, the joint highest in the country, and almost fired Wolves to the play-offs.

His form in Kenny Jackett's side was a revelation, with the youngsters admitting he felt 'unstoppable' as he netted 13 times in gold and black.

After suffering from injury problems in previous years Afobe appears to be relishing life at Molineux.

He is certain to attract interest from Premier League clubs this summer but it would take a monumental bid for Wolves to consider cashing in on their 32-goal star striker.

Afobe, who joined Wolves in January from Arsenal having spent the first half of the season on loan at MK Dons. said: "It's been a difficult couple of seasons for me with injuries and going on loan and not playing, but this season was definitely a breakthrough.

"I played 51 games and scored a few goals so its been a very enjoyable season and this is a good way to finish it."

Afobe has benefited from an injury to Albion striker Saido Berahino, replacing him in the under-21 squad last week.

And the 22-year-old said it was a 'no-brainer' when he got the call from Gareth Southgate asking if he wanted to join the squad in Czech Republic for the European Championships.

"Every footballer would tell you they want to play for ther country and I've been watching this yeam for the past couple of years," Afobe said.

"(A call-up) was at the back of my mind and I'm just happy to be here.

"I've obviously played with a few of these lads in various age groups, I know at least half the boys here and everyone's been very welcoming."

Of the opening game Group B defeat to Portugal he added: "No-one wants to come to a tournament and lose. We do fancy ourselves and we've got to put that right."
