Wolves captain Danny Batth could be fit for the start of the new season – handing head coach Kenny Jackett a summer boost.

Batth's 2014-15 campaign ended prematurely when he suffered a stress fracture to his left foot.

But his rehabilitation is progressing well and Batth has the opening game of the season on August 8 in his sights.

The 24-year-old went under the knife shortly after suffering the injury and was thought to be facing three months on the sidelines, leaving him a big doubt for the new season.

And with uncertainty over Richard Stearman's future, Batth's availability could be crucial at the start of the new campaign.

Head of medical Phil Hayward said: "Danny is following a programme of treatment over the summer both at the training ground and also when he is away.

"It remains early days in terms of his recovery but he is making good progress."

With Tommy Rowe and Razak Boukari now working back up to full fitness, Batth was due to be the only first-teamer not ready for the new season.

Hayward said in terms of Batth's rehabilitation, the injury came a great time.

Wolves won their final two games of their season in Batth's absence but still fell short of the play-offs on goal difference.

Hayward added: "You never want to be injured at any time but Danny Batth getting injured when he did – as it turned out – was great timing.

"There is the best part of three months to work with him on his recovery over the close season.

"If that had happened say in December or earlier then Danny could have missed 30 games of the season."

Meanwhile, former Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has linked up with ex-Molineux boss Dean Saunders at Chesterfield.
