The powerful 19-year-old was sent off for a second bookable offence as England Under-20s drew 3-3 with Morocco in their opening game of the Toulon tournament on Thursday.

Iorfa was suspended for this afternoon's second group game against the Ivory Coast but is available for their final group game against China a week tomorrow.

England Under-20s coach Aidy Boothroyd admitted there was no excuse for Iorfa's conduct.

"We can't complain about the sending off, it's a learning curve which this tournament is all about," said the former Albion academy coach.

But fans took to Twitter to defend the Wolves young professional of the year, who has been playing as one of three central defenders for the Three Lions alongside Molineux team-mate Kortney Hause.

Mark Adkins tweeted: "The second yellow on Dominic Iorfa for England u20s was laughable. He was too big and too strong for the Moroccan."

And Jackett backed the 6ft 5ins stopper all the way, having seen him not only get the better of physical forwards this season but keep his cool.

"In his first friendly for us last summer he handled a guy called Danny Hylton, who's done well for Oxford and who's a physically very aggressive and strong forward, and Dominic handled him very well," said the Wolves head coach.

"Defensively he's been very, very sound and I think his extreme pace is an asset, in bringing the ball out.

"He's showed fantastic improvement, development and potential and we feel, and I'm sure the supporters feel, there's big improvements to come from him as well.

"He's made a fantastic impression and the supporters have taken to him.

"I don't know many right-backs that have got a song about them – it's usually the centre-forward isn't it?

"That just shows you how well he's done and how popular he is."

Jackett feels Iorfa is improving all the time but warned him he can still get better going forwards.

"I now feel the last bit for him is working at his crossing. His final ball when he gets up and around that box is something he'll need to add," said the boss.

"It will add to considerable assets for a right-back because his pace and athleticism are terrific.

"Could he go on and play in the centre in time? Yes.

"But right now, my thoughts and my plans are for him at right-back, where you can really see his pace opening teams up."

Meanwhile, Wolves are seeking a goalkeeping coach for their academy.
