Since taking charge in 2013, Jackett has engineered a remarkable turnaround at Molineux.

His team head into tomorrow's Midlands derby with Blues in the Championship top six and pushing for a return to the Premier League, just two years after relegation to League One.

He said: "You certainly dream of it, you hope to bring success. I have always felt Wolves have potential, a lot of potential – the potential to keep improving.

"Did I dream? Yes, I did dream and then afterwards you are thinking about pre-season or the first game of the season in League One. It is a step at the time and a stage at a time.

"I have been here two years and, well, that has gone very quickly – unbelievably quickly really – and I have been pleased with the progress the club has made."

While Wolves are on a high after four straight wins, Jackett is keen to stress there can be no change in mindset with the race for the play-offs and automatic promotion so tight.

Just nine points separate leaders Bournemouth with eighth-placed Ipswich and Jackett added: "You can see that top eight having the ability to change around again.

"There was a long spell when we were five points off and, as the games whittle down, that becomes a bigger margin. We are pleased we have closed that.

"We are pleased to be in there and really we need to look forward – our season is ahead of us.

"You want this type of pressure and that is why you are in professional football.

"There is focus on the games, a big crowd and a lot on the result, local pride and we are chasing the Premier League. There is a lot on it and we want to be involved."
