Yesterday's 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest meant head coach Jackett became the quickest ever Wolves manager to reach his half century of league victories, taking just 86 games to pip Graham Turner by one.

Ronnie Allen took 94, Mick McCarthy 106 and the great Stan Cullis 108.

But Jackett has topped the lot after Benik Afobe's 46th-minute wonder goal and Bakary Sako's 72nd-minute penalty put Wolves 2-0 up at the City Ground before Dexter Blackstock's 95th-minute consolation.

"I'm very proud," said the boss. "It's still early on for me but to be mentioned in and around those names is great and long may it continue.

"The beauty of it in football is you have to look forward in terms of how you're going to keep improving.

"We're pleased with what we've done in a short space of time.

"Those games have gone very quickly but Wolves is a fantastic club with terrific potential with some very good young players and a lot to build on. And to keep improving and realising that potential is what we're focusing on now, particularly myself.

"It would be fantastic if we could keep progressing and keep that type of win ratio up, it would be some achievement."

Benik Afobe of Wolverhampton Wanderers celebrates after scoring to make it 0-1.

Afobe took his tally to nine in 15 games since his £2m move from Arsenal and 28 for the season. And Jackett said it was special after he ran from the halfway line to score.

"The key goal in a tight game is always the first one and it was a very good one from Afobe," he said.

"He picked it up in a really good area and just released at the right time to hit the target.

"He might have been tempted to take on the last man, but he had enough composure to find the corner of the net."

Wolves' third successive win lifted them back into the top six for the first time since November, if only for a few hours.

And Jackett insisted the players will not let-up now, with Leeds at home on Monday tea-time.

"We have to keep our feet on the floor but we set high targets," added the head coach.

"We won't be thinking we have cracked it – that's not our style – there has to be an inner determination and a drive to consistently improve."
