The 31-year-old forward has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Major League Soccer side.

He will join them on a two-and-a-half year deal in May, with a 12-month option in Colorado's favour.

Doyle revealed former Molineux star and his Ireland team-mate Robbie Keane, who is captain of LA Galaxy, persuaded him to join him in the States.

Doyle, whose £40,000-a-week deal ends in June, said: "I'm delighted and very excited to be moving to the Colorado Rapids.

"I know from talking to Robbie Keane that MLS is a great league to play in and I look forward to being another top Irish player there."

But the one-time £6.5million record signing, who has scored 33 goals in 178 appearances for Wolves, admitted his sadness at leaving Molineux after six years.

Doyle's move was announced at the end of the 2-0 win against Derby after he had come on as a 90th minute substitute for Benik Afobe.

He said: "I will be sad to leave Wolves, a truly great club I've had the privilege to play for. I will always be grateful to the fans for their support; it's they who make Molineux such a special place.

"To be involved in the current squad that is on an exciting run is now my only focus, as it would mean so much to me to see us get back to the Premier League."

"With so many great players moving to MLS to join up with the great American talent already there, it's a great time to play in this league.

"Sporting director Padraig Smith, president Tim Hinchey, along with technical director Paul Bravo and head coach Pablo Mastroeni have impressed me.

"They have ambition and vision for the club and Colorado is a great place to bring up a family."

Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni said: "Kevin's track record speaks for itself.

"We're confident he'll add quality to the side with his own play but his intelligence, experience and professionalism will also bring the best out of others.

"As we continue to build for the future, Kevin will help us maximise our potential both on and off the field."

Paul Bravo, vice-president of soccer operations and technical director, said: "We are truly excited to add Kevin to our roster.

"We believe he can bring a great deal of experience to our squad having played in the Premier League and at the highest level of international football.

"We really believe he'll be a difference-maker for us over the course of the next three seasons. His ability to help us in all areas of the offence will be invaluable."
