Wolves fans were today issued a rallying call to fill Molineux to help the Championship promotion bandwagon back on course.

Head coach Kenny Jackett issued the plea ahead of the visit of his former club Watford, after the 2-1 setback at Bournemouth.

The lure of a 5-0 win against Rotherham failed to prevent a seasonal low of 17,744 for the last home game against Fulham, albeit for a freezing Tuesday when Manchester City versus Barcelona was live on TV.

The Fulham turn-out was the lowest for a home league fixture for almost a year, since 17,041 watched the 4-2 win against Colchester in March last season.

It was also more than 4,000 down on Wolves' average home gate this season of 21,957, a figure just 168 higher than when the team was relegated to League One in 2012-13.

Ideally, Jackett wants a repeat of the 30,000-plus that filled the ground for the Rotherham game on Good Friday last April.

But the likelihood is a crowd of around 21,000 this weekend after two sell-out away trips.

Jackett said: "We'd always look to fill the place if we possibly could – that's our aim. I definitely think the potential is there.

"Wolves have a recent Premier League history and it's a first class stadium with terrific facilities."

Molineux crowds are five per cent up on the 20,860 that watched them in League One last term.

But they remain seventh highest in the Football League behind Derby, Norwich, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.

Jackett said: "We have a passionate crowd who back their team fantastically well. It's our aim to improve and get the crowds as big as possible.

"We have the responsibility on the pitch to do that. The longer we're in the promotion race, the more games we win, the better football we play.

"Those are the things that affect getting as big a crowd as possible."
