Kenny Jackett will not allow reserve keeper Aaron McCarey to leave on loan until Carl Ikeme returns to fitness.

The 22-year-old McCarey himself only made a comeback last weekend after four months out following back surgery.

And Jackett is keen to keep him on board while Ikeme recovers from a broken metatarsal, which is likely to see him sidelined for between six and eight weeks.

Fellow youngster Jon Flatt has backed up Thomas Kuszczak over the past two games and, when asked about McCarey, Jackett said: "He played in an Under-17 game against Leicester on Tuesday and then we'll see if he plays against Stoke at Macclesfield for the Under-21s on Friday night. If we're not going to play him in the first team then the temptation after so long out is to keep him playing rather than put him on the bench.

"But I don't think we will send him on loan before Carl gets back.

"After his injury he hadn't played until Saturday at Nuneaton, but he played on Tuesday and then we'll see about Friday.

"The more games he can play at this particular time the better he'll be and the more he'll get back to being as good as he possibly can be.

"So I'd very much doubt we'll loan him out in this period."

Jackett has been impressed by the performances of former Manchester United and Albion shot-stopper Kuszczak in his first two starts for the club at home to Reading and away to Huddersfield. "He's had two very solid games and made some good saves," said the Molineux head coach.

"He's looked what he is – a very solid and experienced goalkeeper who has done a good job for us.

"As the away side on Tuesday we were under a lot of pressure.

"We did well to nullify them and my goalkeeper was brave on a number of occasions on his crosses and has done very well on his two games since he's come in for Carl Ikeme.

"He hadn't played for quite a while but he has a lot of experience and was at a Brighton side which got into the play-offs.

"He's hit the ground running and is a very good character."
