Wolves won't welcome bids for Sako

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett today warned West Brom their interest in winger Bakary Sako is unwelcome.

moreBut the head coach admitted that if the Baggies – or any other Premier League side – met the Molineux board's valuation, discussions with the player would then take place.

Jackett insists there have been no bids yet for the 26-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

But Albion sources have already confirmed their interest , with Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers are also thought to be looking.

Sako did his value no harm by scoring a cracking opener in Mali's 1-1 draw against the Ivory Coast on Saturday as Wolves drew 0-0 with Charlton.

Jackett is desperate to keep his seven-goal top scorer to underpin the promotion push and insists any bids for his prize asset won't be encouraged.

He said: "It wouldn't be something we'd want. But people are asking me to explain the situation and it's best to be honest because we've had that transparency with the player.

"We've had no bid. Whether the speculation is pre-empting there is one imminent then I don't know, but there has been nothing as yet.

"We've talked a lot about Sako. We will deal with anything if and when it happens.

"The prevailing principle is if a Premier League club comes in for Sako, first of all they would have to meet the valuation of the board of directors. Then we'd speak to the player.

"We've promised him right the way from the start of my time in League One if a Premier League club matched the board of directors' valuation, we'd talk to him.

"Through that transparency we feel we've got the best out of him because Premier League football is what players want."

Meanwhile, Jackett welcomed the return of defender Scott Golbourne. The left-back came off the bench as a half-time substitute for Kortney Hause against Charlton.

It was only his second appearance in 18 games after recovering from a persistent foot injury, with Jackett saying: "We've missed Scott and he's a good option for us."
