The 21-year-old, who only completed his move from Arsenal on Wednesday, is already enjoying cult-like status after coming off the bench and helping Wolves to a 2-0 win over Blackpool.

On a day where all that mattered was getting a win for Sir Jack, Afobe was introduced in the second half and gave a real spark to Wolves' frontline.

Dave Edwards made the breakthrough – four minutes from time – before Afobe settled matters in the 90th minute, slotting into an empty net after Blackpool keeper Joe Lewis and defender Darren O'Dea had comically collided.

"It really was the perfect day all round," the striker said.

"We knew the game was going to be packed out with the passing of Sir Jack Hayward. It was a sad day for the club but the fans were great from the first minute

"It was so important we got the win and for me to get a debut goal is fantastic.

"I've scored more difficult ones but the manager told me when I went on just to chase everything.

"I saw the goalkeeper and the defender go for it and thought there is a chance there could be a mix up.

"Luckily, the ball fell to me and I just thought: 'compose yourself'.

"To see it go in and then hear the fans singing my name, it's what every player dreams of. It was amazing."

Afobe's goal was his 20th of the season, having notched 19 in 30 games while on loan with League One side MK Dons.

And with the Molineux faithful behind him, the striker has vowed to go on and find the target a lot more.

"I'm now on 20 goals, it has been a good season so far but there is no stopping me now," he added
