Nouha Dicko's African Cup of Nations snub will work out best for the Wolves striker in the long run, boss Kenny Jackett reckons.

The six-goal striker was left out of Mali's squad for the tournament, which begins in Equatorial Guinea next week.

Having the six-goal striker, who has netted in each of the last two games, throughout January is undoubtedly a boost for Jackett.

But he believes it will also help Dicko, who has missed more than two months of the season with a hamstring injury, further build his fitness.

He said: "He has had two hamstring injuries this season so far, for him to now stay in a routine and train, play regularly, it will hopefully help him put that behind him.

"I'm sure there will be international recognition in the future. He is a young man and is going to have a very successful club career.

"On a personal level yes, I am very pleased he is going to be around."

Dicko's fellow Mali international Bakary Sako was selected for the squad but when asked if the striker was disappointed with his omission, Jackett said: "I don't know, because he has been on the fringe of it anyway – he has not necessarily been one of their main men."
