It's been a funny old week for Wolves winger Rajiv van La Parra.

Not that the Wolves front-runner was laughing when he was sent off and he certainly wasn't grinning when Wolves slipped to a fifth successive defeat in last week's 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.

But, having had his red card overturned, he is determined to put the smiles back on Wolves' fans' faces tomorrow by sparking the Molineux men back to winning ways at Sheffield Wednesday.

Rather than watching from the sidelines because of a ban, the Dutch winger will be in the thick of the action.

And having relished a new role as an out-and-out forward alongside Danny Graham last week, he would love nothing better than to open his Wolves goal account.

Van La Parra, a summer signing from Heerenveen, felt his red card against the Cherries was hugely harsh – referee Mike Jones adjudging he led with his elbow in an aerial challenge – and he was delighted it was rescinded by the FA.

"I knew that I didn't lead with my elbow but the referee makes his decision and that's what he saw," said van La Parra. "That's why he gave me the red card but I'm happy that it's overturned now.

"I was very surprised because I didn't expect a red card and I knew it would affect the game because, after that, we were down to 10 men.

"It was hard for us and after that we lost the game so that's why I was very disappointed."

Van La Parra certainly felt his red card –Wolves led 1-0 at the time – denied Kenny Jackett's men the chance to go and record their first win since October 25.

"That's why I was so shocked, I knew that we had played a good game and I knew, at 1-0 down, they had to push forward leaving more space for me to attack."

Which is something the 23-year-old relishes.

Having been mainly used as a right-winger in 4-3-3, van La Parra was pushed further forward to play alongside on-loan Graham against the Cherries.

Graham duly opened his goalscoring account and van La Parra's pace and trickery offered a different threat.

Playing against the team with the second-best goals-against record in the Championship – the Owls have conceded 16 in 20 games – that will be a huge plus tomorrow.

"Playing up front was good because I had a little bit of help from Danny Graham. I think it was easier for me because I could go on the left and right side, I really enjoyed it," said the former Feyenoord youth and Caen player.

"I think I can use my energy more for the attacking side.

"Defensively I don't have to do so much so I think that's helped my game as well, I have more energy to attack.

"For the team it's good because I can run into space and give them another option. I think, for my quality, it's good to play up front.

"I will do my best to score a goal soon because that's important for me and for the team as well."

Wolves will have history on their side when they head to Hillsborough tomorrow.

The Old Gold colours have not been beaten in a match in S6 since 1964, a run of seven wins and eight draws at the home of Wednesday.

But van La Parra is very much focused on the here and now and ensuring Jackett's side halt their losing sequence.

"At the moment we are not on a good run but I think Saturday's a good game to overturn that," he said.

"In the Championship every team can win against each other so we have to show a good spirit on Saturday and hopefully we can turn round this run of form."
