Kenny Jackett insists Wolves' defensive players are good enough for the Championship despite their recent woes.

The strength of the backline has come under severe scrutiny during a four-game losing run during which Wolves have conceded 14 goals.

Jackett acknowledges that run must end but believes the pieces to solving any defensive puzzle are already at his disposal.

"We've done it before in this division, when we've had good spells," he said.

"We have got the personnel to do it, we have to adjust to the division, you have to do that with every division.

"Results and performances have been off, they need to improve and we've said that for a few weeks.

"We have to then work and, if possible, re-identify where we're going wrong and what we need to do.

"As a side, we need to come out better at both ends. Being a threat going forward can help your defending as well.

"The players are certainly good enough to get results in the Championship."

Jackett's current defensive options have been limited by injuries to centre-back Ethan Ebanks-Landell and left-back Scott Golbourne.

But the head coach admits he will not hesitate to throw the likes of Kortney Hause into the side after the 19-year-old was recalled from his loan at Gillingham last week.

Midfielder Jack Price was also recalled from his loan at Leyton Orient this week and Jackett says the carrot of breaking into the first team is there for both men.

"There is a chance there, both with Jack and Kortney Hause coming into positions where we have not looked very convincing," he added. "Both have been playing in League One and will want the opportunity to prove themselves in the Championship.

"They will put pressure on the players in their positions and I will not hesitate to give them the opportunity because that is the reason they come back, to put pressure on the players who are there and compete for that place.

"They are fresh players coming in and options for us again."

Jackett believes Price could add some extra steel to the midfield.

He went on: While Jack has good defensive qualities, he reads the game very well and his positioning is very good. We have a lot of ball playing and attacking midfield players here and I would suggest at present we need some ball winners, some screeners and some defenders."
