The Molineux head coach is hoping to seal the £500,000-plus signing of Northampton striker Ivan Toney.

He may also allow Leon Clarke out on loan in what could one two of several deals before Thursday's loan deadline.

Jackett wants Wolves to be more competitive in the middle of the park and dynamic up front as he confessed his midfield lacks "bite" following three successive defeats.

"The mix isn't right at the moment, the combination and the form isn't right, and that has to change," said the boss.

"There's no point me saying everything is fantastic because it's not.

"We've just lost three games on the trot and we're disappointed with that."

Player of the year Kevin McDonald has struggled to impose himself in recent games and Jackett wants more from his midfield.

"We've lacked some bite in midfield and we need to find some competitiveness," said the boss.

"We've been poor at tracking runners – Henri Lansbury on Saturday had too many shots from a two-man midfield.

"He had four shots, one where Carl Ikeme made a fantastic save in the first half when we didn't close him down and then he got his goal in the second half.

"We need to be stopping that and we need our midfielders to be getting four attempts themselves.

"That's where we want the flow going and I just don't think we've been competitive enough."

Jackett also admits Wolves need to change the system they play at times to surprise the opposition.

"We need a slight change in formation - just maybe more of a thrust from the bench, a couple of forwards to come on that can change things," he added.

"There are also different times where we stay in a pattern.

"You need to be variable in the Championship and find more than one way of winning.

"You need to change formation to either hold on to a lead or to get yourself back in a game - that's something the best sides have."

But Jackett remains confident of his squad's capacity to end their run.

"We've got a lot of very good players capable of playing in the Championship and they've proved that," he said.

"I have every confidence in them and their spirit and that it will be good enough to fight back."
