Defender Kortney Hause insists he won't let Wolves down if he gets the call to play in the Championship.

The 19-year-old centre-back was recalled from a three-month loan at League One side Gillingham by head coach Kenny Jackett yesterday.

Hause is due to play for the Under-21s tonight against Villa at AFC Telford United (7pm) to be assessed by Jackett.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell is out for three weeks with a hamstring injury and Danny Batth is one booking away from a suspension.

That leaves Jackett with two experienced alternatives in Richard Stearman and Sam Ricketts.

But the Molineux gaffer believes Hause is ready for the jump up in standard if required.

And the former Wycombe defender, who signed for Wolves for £175,000 last January, reckons he can cope with second-tier football.

He said: "I'm quite confident in myself that, if I earn the chance, I'll be able to handle Championship football.

"I've got good experience in League Two and League One and if I'm selected I think I'll be ready for it.

"I was involved for a bit during pre-season so I'm just looking forward to the opportunity if it's one I'm given.

"I'm playing for the Under-21s in the cup and then it's a case of also impressing in training.

"In this case it's the gaffer I've got to impress and I'm excited about the opportunity I've been given.

"I got to try to take it and, hopefully, I will do."

Hause believes his time at Gillingham, where he played 14 League One games while also being a regular for England Under-20s, has stood him in good stead.

He said: "I'm happy to back in and around such a big club and with the chance to try to be involved around the first-team set-up.

"My loan spell has been very good and helpful towards my career. I feel I've improved and grown as a player during my time there.

"Playing more games in senior football and at a higher level has helped me gain more experience and helped me a lot.

"I've also had another call-up for the England Under-20s and this time was joined by Dominic Iorfa in the team against Portugal.

"I thought we both did quite well and have, hopefully, done Wolves proud.

"That was another important experience to come up against some talented young players from other countries – it's been a good test but I think I've coped with it.

"Going from League One into international football can be quite a difference and you have to adapt but I feel I managed to do that."

Hause wants to thank Gillingham for their help in developing his career, saying: "The manager Peter Taylor, Andy Hessenthaler, the players and the fans – I'm grateful they took me and trusted me to play for them."
