Successive maulings against East Midlands opposition have seen Wolves drop down into a congested mid-table after a promising start to life back in the Championship.

Things will get no easier with Saturday's trip to Brentford – the Bees are buzzing after going fifth in the table thanks to four straight wins.

And, after the weekend's 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest, midfield man Rowe admitted Wolves must start to show their claws if the losing run is to stop at three.

He said: "Confidence is massive but I think you've got to earn the confidence; you've got to show a bit of pride and get on the ball when things are hard.

"It's not easy but I think that's where you get your confidence, playing under pressure. I think we've got players in our squad capable of doing that.

"We watched Brentford on TV and they're in that position for the right reasons. They play good football.

"It's going to be a hard game but every game's hard in this league and right now we need a win.

"Confidence breeds confidence. As soon as you get one or two players confident, they pick the rest of the team up.

"But we've got to make things right first, let's go back to basics and see what we need to work at."

Such work is likely to be of a defensive nature after Forest's second-half treble followed a 5-0 thrashing at Derby.

And Rowe admitted he had been left dumbstruck by the events of the second 45 minutes at Molineux on Saturday.

The summer arrival from Peterborough added: "Coming in at half-time we thought we were in with a good chance of winning the game.

"We really didn't see it coming as we always play well going into that end but I don't think we pressed them enough after the break.

As a team we just weren't good enough defensively."
