Wolves are eyeing former West Brom goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak as a potential signing if Carl Ikeme gets injured.

Boss Kenny Jackett had the 32-year-old ex-Manchester United shot-stopper in for training with the first-team on Tuesday.

The head coach is looking at potentially bringing in an experienced No 1, in case of any problem with first-choice Ikeme.

Understudy Aaron McCarey is out until January following back surgery. Kuszczak, who is a free agent after leaving Brighton in May, completed a full session with the senior squad.

But he is understood to be one of several being assessed by Jackett and goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain, with the untried Jonathan Flatt currently the only cover for Ikeme.

Jackett said: "If Carl got injured, it would be quite appealing to a number of people to go straight into the Wolves team.

"So we'd be getting a more experienced or better quality goalkeeper than a No.2."

Wolves can sign a free agent at any time but they can't make an emergency loan signing between the closure of the loan window on Thursday, November 20 and the opening of the transfer window in January.

Manchester-based former Poland international Kuszczak was part of Albion's 2005 Great Escape.

He was also in the United squad that won the 2008 Champions League, has three Premier League titles and two League Cups to his name.

He fits into the No 1 category that Jackett is seeking and has been training with Oldham since August, awaiting a call from a Premier or Championship club.

Kuszczak said: "I've had discussions with some clubs, but I've been surprised I haven't managed to sign a contract somewhere.

"But I have to be prepared. I'm training every day and waiting for the chance, so when it comes I'm ready."

Kuszcak made 160 League appearances in a decade for Albion, United, Watford and Brighton but wasn't offered a new deal at the AMEX Stadium.

He said: "Physically, I feel really good and I'm training to stay fit so I'm ready."
