Former Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo retires

Former Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo has announced his retirement.

The 36-year-old, who scored 16 goals in the Championship title-winning side in 2008-09, signed a one-year deal with Conference Premier side Chester in the summer, but played the last of 10 games on October 4.

Iwelumo, who won four Scotland caps between 2008-10, wrote on Twitter this afternoon: "The day has arrived.

"Today I sadly announce my retirement from football following a long & blessed career. Thank you!"

In an 18-year career, the Coatbridge-born target man scored 106 goals in 497 League games for 18 clubs in four countries - England, Scotland, Denmark and Germany, netting 121 goals in 551 appearances in total.
