Southgate wants his side to qualify with style from the play-off, which concludes with Tuesday's second leg in Vinkovci.

A bumper crowd is expected with more than 19,000 seats already sold and tickets available today, and Southgate reckons his players will be inspired by the atmosphere.

He said: "I think they will look forward to it. Sometimes with the Under-21s, particularly when we travel abroad, there isn't such a big crowd.

"We've had great crowds for our matches and people have enjoyed the football we've played.

"But we set out this process on the back of a tournament (the World Cup) where people said either English players couldn't play or didn't care.

"And I think what this group has shown is that those two things aren't true.

"I'm setting the bar high for them; it's not enough for us just to win, I want us playing in a style that they can take with them to being successful in the seniors.

"So if I'm making it harder for them then so be it but that's the benchmark we want to set."

West Brom hot-shot Saido Berahino is expected to lead Southgate's attack after six goals for the Baggies and two for the under-21s already this term.

And £31 million Manchester United defender Luke Shaw could also figure, with Southgate urging Molineux fans to play their part.

The former Villa defender said: "Molineux is a place that I know bounces when the team are playing well and when the supporters see football they enjoy watching.

"We've been an exciting and attacking team to watch and we play a possession-based game where we're averaging over 600 passes per game in our group matches so we have to continue to do that.

"We've got individual attacking talent and pace in the side, so I look forward to watching them every time they take the field.

"I hope the fans will come to the game, because that's what we have tried to implement."
