The 26-year-old has become a firm fans' favourite after making the left-back spot his since his £700,000 move from Barnsley 13 months ago.

Golbourne, who makes his first return to Reading tomorrow since leaving the club in 2009, has under two years left on his contract.

At the moment, he says there are no plans to extend his deal but he admits he couldn't be happier.

Golbourne said: "It's a club you can stay at long term – I look at Richard Stearman, Dave Edwards and Carl Ikeme, it's the perfect place to have a good career.

"The ambition of the club means this isn't a stepping stone because it's a club that can go higher.

"That's the aim – I think everything I want to achieve can be done here because of the ambition, the drive and the direction we're going in.

"I'm not in any rush to go anywhere else and I'm really enjoying being part of what's going on.

"I'm in a very good place here; I feel in the best shape ever and I feel very well equipped at a very good club. I wouldn't like to fix anything that's not broke.

"I'm happy to stay here and I'm really enjoying myself at the moment as it is."

And he is loving his football, adding: "I feel like I'm a really important part of the team. It's nice too that the fans have taken to me.

"That does help, as does the gold hair and everything else."

Golbourne dropped down a division to leave Barnsley but has since seen the clubs swap places and has no regrets.

He said: "Even though I was stepping down a division, it felt like a step up in terms of the size of the club and the fan-base.

"So I do feel really privileged to be here and it's been really positive."

Golbourne has settled into the area, too, saying: "I live in Birmingham and my missus works in Birmingham.

"It's not too far from Bristol in case I ever need to get home, so it's perfect for me and my family. It's ticking all the boxes and I'm really enjoying being part of it."
