Third-placed Wolves go to Reading on Sunday already boasting the best defensive record in all four divisions.

Jackett's side are level on points with second-placed Norwich and just a point behind leaders Nottingham Forest.

And the Molineux chief believes his side are well set to continue their challenge as the surprise package having only just been promoted from League One.

"Maybe a side will come through? Could it be us?" said Jackett. "We've been close in every game and I think that's a bonus coming into the division.

"We think we have a good foothold in it – we've played good football, we haven't been outpassed, we've been solid and we've been competitive.

"There aren't many teams out of sight, or that people are saying 'they're a class side, they're miles above everyone else'.

"I think a lot of Championship games could be draws and some of our games could have been.

"If they're close matches and we consistently can win them by the odd goal that shows we're a good team because it means you step up that little bit when you need it.

"In the Championship it's a case of 'small differences' so far without anybody yet stamping their authority on it like Leicester did as they got over 100 points."

Meanwhile, Jackett hinted that he is likely to keep changes to a minimum for the trip to the Madejski Stadium.

Michael Jacobs and Tommy Rowe got 90 minutes in the Under-21s on Monday against Middlesbrough, but they are likely to have to wait for their chance.

"I don't think I'm going to go to Reading and suddenly make wholesale changes," said the boss.
