The 23-year-old Zambia international is available for a move during the loan window and it's understood Wolves have the pacy youngster in their sights.

Mayuka, who has almost three years left on his contract, cost Saints between £3m and £3.5m when he joined from Young Boys of Berne in August 2012.

But he is some way down the pecking order at St Mary's and it is thought Southampton won't stand in his way if a loan deal is put to them.

Head coach Jackett dropped Nouha Dicko to the bench for the first half of last night's game at Charlton and gave Leon Clarke his first Championship start of the season.

But Wolves looked much more dangerous last night as George Saville and James Henry hit the woodwork, while Stephen Henderson made a fine save from Bakary Sako and Clarke missed an excellent chance.

Mayuka has failed to score in his 11 Premier League appearances for Saints, but 10 of those appearances have come off the bench, but he has netted once in two Capital One Cup outings.

He managed 10 in 35 outings for Young Boys before his switch to the south coast and spent last season on loan at French club Sochaux, scoring four times in 13 starts, plus another eight appearances off the bench.

The look at Mayuka comes after Wolves have failed to land any of their targets so far, including Callum Wilson, Chris Wood, Patrick Bamford and Andy Delort.

Meanwhile, Jackett was delighted with the commanding display in last night's 1-1 draw at Charlton when Danny Batth cancelled out Andre Bikey's opener.

"The overall performance was very good, we played with great tempo and we passed the ball very well, albeit in the first half without the punch we needed," he said.

"But the substitution of Nouha Dicko really helped and gave us pace in behind their back four and he spurred the others on.

"We controlled large parts of the game."

Jackett also claimed Charlton's goal scored by Andre Bikey shouldn't have been allowed.

"Tal Ben Haim blocked Bikey's marker and he didn't go for the ball at all," said the boss.
