Defender Matt Doherty has promised fans it will be a happier Valley tonight – and that they will see a different Wolves than their last trip there.

The 22-year-old right-back is the only survivor of Dean Saunders' starting XI from the current squad that lost 2-1 back on April 20, 2013, to bring relegation to the third tier a step closer.

Players such as Roger Johnson and Karl Henry were still in the line-up, and although full of big names, Wolves were only heading in one direction – down.

Fast forward to now and things couldn't be different under head coach Kenny Jackett.

"It certainly feels different now and it seems a very long time ago!" said Doherty.

"We've got a different squad, different gaffer, different feel, different style of play – and I think my game has changed a lot.

"I think the fans watching us then were more angry with how things were going, but now they're really positive and are enjoying how we're playing.

"We'll have great backing including all the fans in London who support us.

"They'll be going to Charlton confident we can get something and hopefully we won't let them down. The last Charlton game Karl Henry hit the crossbar from the halfway line.

"We equalised and then they scored at the end which left us in trouble."

Wolves have scored six in six so far and the Irishman, who gets forward regularly and is a threat at corners, is also looking to improve that ratio.

He said: "We need to be more clinical going forward and that's defenders as well, by chipping in more from set-pieces.

"I've had some chances – normally I feel I can put them away, but so far they've either been blocked, the goalkeeper has made a good save or I've sliced them wide.

"Hopefully I can get on the scoresheet soon."

Charlton go into the game as the only Championship side with Wolves to boast a 100 per cent home record.

The Addicks are seeking their fourth win at The Valley and Doherty is expecting them to maintain their top-six form.

"Charlton could be up there this season," he said. "They have made a good start and are strong at home and have some good players.

"But we will go to all our away games and try to get three points."
